Reading of the Month (June 2013)
Canary Yellow What do you think of when you think of a canary? A bright yellow bird who chatters aimlessly, looks good in a cage and yet has no real deep purpose? Well, if canary has come to you, think again; there's more to Canary than meets the eye. First, remember the color yellow reflects a lot of warmth and happiness. Never underestimate the simple joy of just being! Going deeper, the Canary fable has a lot to teach about self contentment, communication and the value of genuinely positive relationships. Canary and Mrs. Robinson don't write the screenplay they constantly regal friends about but they sure have a lot of fun telling the story and engaging each other in their lives. Much of heir communication is through their talk/chatter, and they both exhibit an extrovert nature. How do you communicate? How do you nurture the important relationships in your life? How do you engage with the idea of just being? Finally, that seemingly "useless" little bird reminds us at a profound level to look deeper; there's more to that little Canary—and of course other people, places and things-- than initially meets the eye.
