Reggie Rust Keyword: Impasse Key Sentence: "This path is obstructed. Re-route." “Reggie only blocks the path, not the goal.” How do you handle those inevitable frustrations? On the one hand there are the momentary ones which are pretty minor in the broad scheme of things, such as getting stuck in traffic or failing to find what you want at the grocery store. There are also of course the major ones: your career prospects aren’t what you want them to be; the quality of your relationships doesn’t feel right, or even your own internal self esteem seems like it needs a boost. As even the small ones can be pretty aggravating, they’re each in their own right important. The fable of Reggie Rus serves as a reminder that not only might these frustrations be relatively minor blocks in your forward movement but more often than you might expect and as corny as it might sound, they may actually serve as opportunities. Reggie Rust, the fable, is the story of two mountain climbers whose path is blocked by the somewhat mythical character of the fable’s title. They simply aren’t allowed to keep going. Every forward move is thwarted. Reggi just won’t get out of the way. Ah, those best laid plans? After failed attempt after failed attempt, finally, the climbers just sit back on their log to think and wait. They want to see what will come, and they remember family history. Their uncle too long ago had been blocked by Reggie Rust; by not taking the offered job at the local factory, he did better: he became wealthy due to the discovery of heretofore hidden oil reserves! The climbers, deciding to change plan, walk away. Come to find out they have been saved by Reggie from an impending mountain cave-in! … So, again, how do you handle those inevitable frustrations? Reggie Rust serves as a reminder that instead of being taken as annoyances, they might highlight the importance of slowing down to re-route in favor of coming up with something that will serve you better. It’s one of my favorite fables. *All quotes from tori Hartman (http://www.torihartman.com/shop/pc/home.asp)
