Inspirational Color Quote of the Week: color Blue
We all can use a little inspiration. It’s easy to concentrate on the tasks that need to be done immediately and the exigencies of our daily routines. The inspirational color quotes found in this section of the website ask you, in any way that feels right for you, to step out of the box, take a few minutes of reflection and refocus on the bigger picture. Thereafter, you might choose to take some particular action to move you in a new direction, you might want to take advantage of a quiet moment or you might choose to simply enjoy. In that spirit, here’s the inspirational color quote for this week. A Blue Print of Positivity “Visualize this thing that you want, see it, feel it, believe in it. Make your mental blue print, and begin to build.” --Robert collier (author, personal growth expert; early 1900's) What do you think? Ok, Mr. Collier probably makes it sound easier than it usually is. In a couple of sentences, he lays out a whole process, from visualizing what you want to really believing you can get it to actually taking actions that start to build. But beginning at the beginning--visualizing that which you really want--let’s slow it down to focus on each step. It’s so easy to get negative. We make things hard. We focus on what we don’t like or what’s not working. Nothing wrong with that and sometimes there’s a lot to learn from bringing to light a down side. But Mr. Collier is urging us to also refocus on the positive, on what’s working and on what we want? Perhaps take a couple of deep breaths, check out any images that come that point to what’s important and connect with what you want to move toward. It sounds simpler than it sometimes is, and sometimes it takes some time to get clear. And it’s worth the wait because then as Mr. Collier says, we can begin to build a vision. Oops, again, not always the simplest of steps. Visualize it; see it; feel it, believe in it. Those steps are not always so easy or so automatic. You can know what you want and still have doubts. You can know what you want but have a hard time visualizing it or really believing that you’ll get it. But again maybe that’s a signal to take another couple of deep breaths and ask yourself what needs to happen to get the idea this dream indeed can come true. And I like that Mr. Collier doesn’t stop there. It’s about dreaming but it’s also about at least a minimal amount of planning and taking even some small action that begins to build. So what about developing the blue print he talks about? Well, it’s the link between the dream and the reality. It’s the plan that’ll help you stay motivated and keep you on track, and of course, the words “blue print” literally invoke the calming and loyal color blue. There’s the steadiness of a color that will see us through ups and downs, and there’s the expanse of the ocean and sky telling us our dreams are ok. Mr. Collier’s process may in actuality involve a lot more twists and turns than his couple of sentences indicate, but he has certainly gifted us a blue print and a road map, and his words call forth a color that should only make things that much clearer. How do these ideas resonate with you, and what are one or two actions you might want to take in the next day or so on that basis?

Inspirational Color Quote of the Week: Color Green
We all can use a little inspiration. It’s easy to concentrate on the tasks that need to be done immediately and the exigencies of our daily routines. The inspirational color quotes found in this section of the website ask you, in any way that feels right for you, to step out of the box, take a few minutes of reflection and refocus on the bigger picture. Thereafter, you might choose to take some particular action to move you in a new direction, you might want to take advantage of a quiet moment or you might choose to simply enjoy. In that spirit, here’s the inspirational color quote for this week. Learning From Sea Green “The artist who pictures sounds as colors, who feels the difference in microns between one sea green and another... is not attending to what the world considers important.” --Eric Maisel (creativity expert; author) What do you think? Someone who sees sounds for colors? Someone who cares about the exact shade of one sea green as opposed to another? Hmm, Mr. Maisel may be right; it would be an understatement to say most of us don’t usually spend a lot of time on those considerations? Well, there’s lots of food (perhaps color?) for thought here, and you can see why Mr. Maisel raises the concern. As he indicates, there’s certainly a dilemma for an artist. perhaps attempting in a culture that doesn’t quite get an emphasis on originality and creativity to figure out when to try to fit in and when to go your own way. At the same time, It’s also important for that potentially struggling artist to realize how much the rest of us who have no clue perhaps appreciate the effort and talent that goes into those wonderful creations. One shade of sea green can indeed be different from another; if you get it right you can create a picture that brings us pleasure or challenges our emotions, and your work can resonate even down through the ages. And if you want to link sounds to colors, aren’t you creating something unusual and at the same time encouraging the rest of us to use our imagination perhaps more than we otherwise would? There’s more here too. You don’t need to be an artist to find yourself in a position where you need to choose between your own preferences and what the world (ok maybe just the people most important in your life) considers as important. What to do? When to go along with what others want and when to go your own way? I bet if you think about it you can come up with all kinds of your own examples. sure we see the dilemma in times when values fundamental to you clash with those of others in your environment, e.g. consider the artist who seems out of step with those around him. But even more, there are the ordinary situations that all of us actually face on a daily basis. What do you do when there’s a disagreement among your friends about which movie to see this week end, about Where to take your family’s next vacation, or about where to have dinner next time you go out? In the end and whether you’re an artist or not, it’s amazing how much we all can learn and choose from exactly the right shade of sea green. How do these ideas resonate with you, and what are one or two actions you might want to take in the next day or so on that basis? Inspirational Color Quote of the Week: Color Green

In that spirit, here’s the inspirational color quote for this week. Monsters as Friends? “You have to fight the green monster with your mind, not your fists.” --Mathew Broderick (actor) What do you think he he’s talking about, and what do you think of what he’s saying? There are a lot of unknowns here, right? What’s the green monster? The famous part of the wall at Fenway Park in Boston over which it’s so difficult to hit a ball?? Some kind of dragon or mythical creature? Perhaps the green “monster” isn’t even a physical being at all; perhaps it’s any attitude, feeling or perspective that you think stands in the way of you achieving things you really want. It’s fun to speculate about what he’s really talking about, and in this case it’s also fun not to actually know. Let’s imagine what the monster is and what he (or she) might look like. How large? How strong? How many scales or horns? What do we need to know about it that will help us fight it? I also like this quote because it makes me think of applying the metaphor of monster to the world of my own emotions. It’s a little strongly stated, but what “monsters” are actually lurking in our minds? We don’t have enough confidence? We can’t get clear about what we want? We’re afraid to tell someone how we really feel? Monsters are a great metaphor because these emotions sure can feel like insurmountable blocks that keep us stopped. We feel frustrated, and as Matthew Broderick focuses our attention, our natural instinct is to want to fight (Fighting with the mind is ok; fists would be preferable.). But before things get out of hand, stop for a minute. Remember this particular monster is the color green, and this is one case where color really matters. As we know, green is associated with lots of positive characteristics: likability, sociability and above all, growth in many dimensions. So what if we changed our perspective? What if these mental monsters prove to be friendly, and what if they have the potential to bring us some positive surprises? If we take a little time to engage in some reflection, are there ways these emotional monsters (that lack of confidence; lack of clarity etc.)can perhaps serve us, teach us and help us to genuinely grow. Monsters—especially those green ones-- come in many shapes and sizes; what about the possibility that some come in peace to serve as teachers an as providers? What if that big green monster that scares us so badly and feels like our worst enemy turns out to be a friend and turns out to be just about the right size? How do these ideas resonate with you, and what are one or two actions you could take in the next day or so on that basis? |
