Live Inspired! Inspirational Color Quote of the Week: Color Purple A Purple Soul? “All the other colors are just colors, but purple seems to have a soul — when you look at it, it's looking back at you.” --Uniek Swain (writer) What do you think? What does it mean to have a soul? Putting your heart and “soul” into the things you love? Getting to the core of who you are? A little piece of Divine energy? An essence that will last after your body’s not around on the earth? Certainly, not the easiest of concepts. And concepts we might, because they focus us on so many intangibles, be inclined to push away. That’s why I like the linkage of a complicated idea, soul, to something tangible (a color). See/sense the color, and voila, you can not only enjoy the color but when you want to, you can take the next step: take the encouragement of the color to link with the larger ideas. See it as a friendly reminder to go deeper inside yourself to see what’s there. In this way, purple seems a great choice. As a color associated with the development of intuition, it’s reminding us to take time to get quiet, to listen to our inner voice and to trust whatever comes from that knowing. It’s so easy to move from one activity to another; we forget to reflect and to focus on what really matters. As well, the color purple is associated with some other wonderful qualities that help us get closer to that idea of soul—spirituality, high purpose, the magic and mystery of the universe. I want more of that. Finally because of the expense that in early times went into its production, the color purple has long been linked to royalty and nobility. If purple is looking back at us, it’s reminding us to treat ourselves well. Nurture the things that take care of yourself and those that simply make you feel good. The more we do that, the more we can get in touch with our higher purpose. And it’s a two way street: the clearer we can be about our higher purpose, the easier it is to nurture and support the things that matter most. So remember, as Uneik Swain says, “When you look at purple, it’s looking back at you.” In a good way, keeping you honest. Making sure you’re focusing on what’s really important and on what’s really true. Encouraging you, you be yourself. I don’t know if purple should be distinguished from any other color, but if one color could look back at me with its soul, I agree purple is a good choice. How do these ideas resonate with you, and what are one or two actions you might want to take on that basis?
