Aqua Thought of the week Key Theme: The Whole Bigger Than the Sum of Its Parts? “Aqua mixes the Blue of communication with the Green of unconditional love and in its essence it is about communicating to others from your heart” (Tori Hartman). Definition of the color Aqua: “A light blueish green to a light greenish blue” (cite) So what is aqua? Is it more blue than green? More green than blue? Do we have to mix blue and green to “make” aqua? On the one hand, it’s important to think of aqua is a combination of its component parts of blue and green. Thus in the lingo of the chakra (Tori Hartman quote above), this thought process highlights the need to link what’s in our heart with the kind of communication we put out there into the world to let other people know what we’re really feeling. It’s not just about the heart, and it doesn’t just involve communicating. The connection between the two obviously strengthens the nature of each and serves as a critical key to success. What if, in addition, we simplified the conversation? What if we simply thought of aqua as its own unique color, “A light blueish green to a light greenish blue”. What’s different between these two characterizations? There’s still in the second case a referent to the more common colors of blue and green. But based on the definition, the reference is used only as a descriptor in which to situate the essence and uniqueness of aqua. Not only do we understand aqua as an actual combining of blue and green but we truly get that it embodies its own unique shade. So what then is aqua? On the one hand, it can be described—productively—in terms of its components. At the same time, and perhaps more importantly, aqua also serves as a reminder that the whole, as they say, is more than the sum of its parts? How this week do these ideas resonate with you? Keyword: Flow Water equals flow. Think about the ever changing nature of the ocean or the ebb and flow of tides. As a sailor, you can be cruising along on a calm sea for hours, but in seconds, the weather can turn on a dime. When you’re out there as a swimmer, you never actually know when a wave will catch you by surprise. It’s this flow and ever changing nature of course that makes the oceanexperience so engaging. What about the flow of life? How do you handle all the ups, downs and surprising changes of direction? The unexpected interruptions in the normal scheme of things? Aqua serves as a reminder that whatever’s going on for you—moments of tranquility or stormy times--it’s not about thinking of things as “good” or “bad.” As we describe the character of the oceans, so too we can view the ups and downs of life as all part of the changing nature of the natural course of events. As we learn from aqua and as the old saying teaches, going honestly with the flow and participating fully in where it takes us is after all the only way to go!

Key idea: Images that Work “In an instant they were all in beautiful clear blue water. The temperature was perfect. The water was rising. Mike spoke first. "What's going on? Where is the land?" Panic set in. How would they survive? "Wait," said Peter. "We're getting more."… "Peter's right," said Crystal. "We asked for more, so we're getting more water. "And with that it began to rain and the water rose faster” (tori Hartman). You get the idea. The amount and quality of the water rose and fell with the quality of the young people’s thoughts. As they expressed contentment and joy, the water levels were clear and wonderfully blue. As their desire for “more” won out, the water rose uncomfortably. Back and forth. Changing as their thoughts altered between appreciation and fun to fear and dissatisfaction. What a wonderful metaphor for appreciating all the wonderful things in our lives but also more generally what a powerful reminder of the difference an image can make. Of course as in this case, saying it and hearing it is good. In fact it seems as though we all seem to need a surprising number of reminders to really get the idea that genuinely expressing gratitude can improve and even transform the quality of our lives. Why it’s so hard to get such a simple idea to click in is another story altogether. But because it is indeed so hard to get the idea to click in,all the more reason that a powerful image can help. Forget the abstract idea of gratitude. What about the concrete image of the rise and fall of beautiful blue water flowing magically in directions in tandem to the changing nature of our thoughts. It’s a metaphor that makes you pay more attention and stop and think. It really gets the idea across in a way that helps us remember and appreciate. In what ways might you develop an image to help you concretize and better put into practice something you have been really wanting to give more power to in your life? Aqua Facts: Did you know…?

Heartfeltcommunication “Aqua mixes the Blue of communication with the Green of unconditional love and in its essence it is about communicating to others from your heart. It is the color of the artist who is connected with his muse and can translate that to others. Aqua says, "I must tell you how I truly feel (Tori artman). What a powerful idea. It begins with getting clear about what’s truly your heart’s desire, and then it needs to be communicated. Alternatively, it’s important to slow down to make sure your communication—sometimes too quickly expressed-- really comes from your heart. The two processes go hand in hand. You could communicate without making the onnection to the truth in your heart, or you could know what’s in your heart without taking time to communicate it to yourself or someone else? How this week have you really put the two together to truly get clear on what’s in your heart and to also put those feelings out there into the world? Card of the Month Aqua People
Keyword: Aqua People Who Are “Doing Well” With What You Have So what do you think it would mean to be one of the “aqua people?” Why or why not do you think you might want to be one? Perhaps you need to know the story before you decide? The fable takes place at the scene of a great party honoring the success of some young people celebrating major new business acquisitions. The champagne is flowing. Glamor, glitz and frivolity are all the rage. Enter, from out of nowhere, a shabbily dressed older man asking for a diet coke. Who is he? Has anyone seen him before? Should he be asked to leave because he so clearly doesn’t belong Unsure, the hosts go over to make his acquaintance. The tone of the evening changes dramatically as he introduces himself. Waving his hands to what’s going on in the room, he quietly says, "You must no longer ask for more, but do well with what you have." Think about that because those are pretty profound words. What does it mean to not ask for more? What does it mean to do well with what you have? Is it about appreciating your blessings? incorporating more fun or joy or laughter into your life? From a different perspective, is it about having a stronger life purpose? The old man really gets the young people thinking and when he (magically?) conjurs? Up levels of water (aqua) which rise and fall, flow and change, with the very nature of their thoughts, you can only imagine what an effect his words present. As they’re appreciating and not wanting more, the water is a beautiful blue color and of comfortable temperature. As their thoughts shift to dissatisfaction, fear or simply moving out of the present moment, the quality of the water becomes uncomfortably deep. So, what then does it mean to be one of the “aqua” people? How do we decide if they’re a tribe we want to be part of? The flowing and ever changing nature of the water so prevalent in this story leaves considerable room for our own interpretations, and the old man “disappears” from view before he can be directly asked. But there certainly must be clues and lessons to ponder in his soft spoken rejoinder: “You must no longer ask for more, but do well with what you have." And , if that focus on doing well with what you have is indeed a big part of what it means to be one of the “aqua people”, then count me in as a member of the tribe! |
